1995 Saab 9000 CSE Automatic 254,800 Miles $1850 OBO (200 HP High Pressure Turbo)

60+ Photos Here!

We’ll we hate to do this but the best car I ever owned has been replaced. Not because she is giving us any issues, but simply because its time to move on.  This is my 2nd Saab 9000 and 7th Saab in general and the best of the bunch. This think will just not give up with a solid engine and one of the few “good” transmissions…which were know to be the weak links in 9000s. My two experiences were the exception!

Owned by an automotive enthusiast and a Saab freak. It was either maintained by  Don from One-Stop-Saab or myself over its life in Ohio. Came from Florida about 6-7 years ago via ebay.

As an automotive enthusiast it doesn’t mean my cars are perfect or the best looking it simply means they are driven, kept in perfect working order and treated like family. I know EVERYTHING about this car even if it’s a hangnail.

60+ Photos Here!

Let me run down the car in detail.

  •     * Engine 8-10
  •     * Transmission 8-10
  •     * Body 6-10
  •     * Interior 7-10

(if you put the above numbers into perspective of my cars that are 15 years old it’s an 8 out of 10 in every category)

  •     * Windows all work
  •     * Sunroof works
  •     * Locks work
  •     * AC works (more on that below)
  •     * Stereo and all other electronics work
  •     * ABS works
  •     * Leather has dry cracks but no rips
  •     * Carpet is pretty good
  •     * NO SAGGING HEADLINER, yea!
  •     * Runs cool (never overheated)
  •     * Starts every time

Recent stuff…

  •     * New serp belt and tensioner (important) 2009
  •     * Newer battery 2009
  •     * New tires 2009
  •     * New front ceramic brakes, turned rotors and one rebuilt caliper 2009
  •

Less Recent Stuff over the course of 150,000 miles we've owned it…

  •     * Alternator replaced
  •     * Waterpump replaced
  •     * Fuel Pump (twice)
  •     * Headlight relay (twice) common item
  •     * AC compressor (twice)
  •     * Head work done (gaskets replaced)
  •     * Main Oil Seal (to many times to remember)
  •     * Crank Seal (on tranny side) fixed leaks
  •     * Turbos (x2) when they start to smoke or act up we slap another used in!
  •     * Sunroof rebuilt

The only concerns for this car include…

1.    Horn is not working at the moment but the part has been ordered. The clock spring in the steering wheel broke (again).

2.    There is a very small oil leak at the crank seal. We’ve had about 4 seals in there over the life of the car but because of a small flaw in the crank rotation it simply cannot be 100% corrected. Very easy fix that is not worth doing again for the 5th time unless I’m in that area on another project. I'd say a drop or two of oil on the ground each night.

3.    AC works great at speeds but is a bit warm on the hottest days in slow traffic. The rebuilt compressor still has a flaw where the RPM need to be up on the engine for it work at it’s best. We’ve had the AC rebuilt twice over the life of the car and we think the rebuilds are quesionable.

4. Cracked headlight. Been that way all summer and hasn't been a problem but I just aquired a better used one. Just need to find time to put it in.

Other comments…

There is minimal rust that showed up about 2-3 years ago…and is just starting to now progress. Photos should tell the story. There are small rust marks on the hood from big road/rock nicks but the frame and underside are spotless. The protection they put on there is the best.

This car starts every time, gets through the coldest winters and drives straight down the road. We have always babied it and I think that is why she keeps going on and on. If you give it to your highschool kid and let him beat on the turbo…it go will go quick. This is exactly what happened to my last 9000 I gave away. The kid destroyed in a month!

Who is this car for? Someone who wants a solid and safe dependable car at a bargain basement price. Possibly someone who knows and loves Saabs and is not afraid of owning an European car that costs no more to drive or operate then other European car. I know I’ve owned them all.

It gets 27mpg all day and I don’t have enough room to tell you everything that has been done to the car over the years…but at the same time this has been the cheapest car I have ever operated. Take the amount of miles, divide it by the money I have spent and it is cheap. These are built like tanks, were technological wonders when they came out and set a bar in style and quality that only a few 4 doors have achieved.

We love this car and hope it goes to a good home. Interestingly I bought a Saab 9-5 4 years ago thinking it would replace the 9000 that was due to clock out soon…but she never went down. We just left the 9-5 wagon parked next to the house for only when we needed a wagon…and kept on driving the 9000. It’s time to pass on the 9000 and get the 9-5 in the daily rotation!

Great car. We love it…will miss it and are nuts for giving up on her. Just to many cars for two people.

Lots of miles for any car but Saabs when taken care of can last as long as any Toyota or Honda. This car is for the right person and I think my price is fair. We still see these selling for $5000 in great shape with less then 150,000 miles…

Last, I'm pretty well known in Saab resource areas over the years such as saabnet.com and even have an (older) Saab website for reference that is now archived here (www.carboncow.net/saab). I'm a trusted name in Saab information and have had incredible success over the years on ebay and craigslist selling and buying toys. Buy with confidence.
